Davis Nursery & Country Market - Jeffersonville
Five years later, in 1990, a tornado leveled the greenhouses. The plants and buildings were a total loss. But the Davis’ gathered up what they had, and erected four gutter-connected greenhouses across the street on another family owned business property Davis Implement Incorporated.
By 2003 plant and produce wholesale had grown tremendously, requiring faster delivery times and more efficient production. The greenhouses were all interconnected and the business streamlined to accommodate the growth. That same year, Don Field, the owner of Field’s Produce, decided to retire. Madison has always been a big part of Davis Nursery’s success so, it seemed a natural progression to purchase Field’s Produce.
The following year in 2004, Ed Cissell, owner of Ed’s Fruit Market in Jeffersonville Indiana, another of the Nurseries wholesale clients was looking to sell his business as well. Fields' Produce and Ed's Fruit Market reopened as Davis Nursery & Country Market.
These days, Davis Nursery sprawls over 20 interconnected greenhouses just outside New Washington, Indiana and is used strictly as a growing facility. The Davis Nursery & Country Markets in Madison and Jeffersonville sell produce and plants from the nursery, and partner with Boar's Head Premium Deli Meats & Cheeses to supply their two full service delis. The Davis family carefully selects other produce grown on local farms, as well as some shipped in sources to help provide top quality products year round. The market is also host to several European Import Specialty Food items, as well as a full line of Stonewall Kitchen products and Davis Nursery & Country Market's Signature Line of gourmet foods.
